Leadership Elk and Cameron

The mission of Leadership Elk & Cameron is to educate its participants in the strengths and weaknesses of the region in order to develop informed, civic-oriented volunteers to help direct the future of Elk and Cameron Counties.

This hands-on program is open to anyone over the age of 18 who lives or works in Elk or Cameron County. The class meets on the second Wednesday of each month from September to June. LEC provides a view of the inner workings of Elk & Cameron County from the environment, the arts, education, health and human services, tourism,
communication skills, government structure, history, public issues and personal leadership styles. The program sessions are held in various locations in Elk and Cameron Counties and includes a trip to Harrisburg.

For more information, call us at the CEC, 814-781-3437.
“The Community Leaders of Today Preparing the Community Leaders of Tomorrow”

Join the more than 170 graduates of the Counties' only leadership development program. Leadership Elk & Cameron (LEC) was created in 2007 to educate its participants in the strengths and opportunities of the county in order to develop informed, civic-oriented volunteers to help direct the future of Elk County. The program fosters the development of local home-grown leaders and establishes a network of responsible individuals who can in turn, pass on the benefits to employers and community groups.

LEC entered its thirteenth year in September 2019 with more than 170 participants completing the LEC program since the inaugural 2007 class.  LEC was developed when a need for leaders was identified as a major concern for our rural communities. Community awareness is key to the development of a well rounded leader. The Community Education Council of Elk and Cameron Counties, the Ridgway-Elk Chamber of Commerce/Main Street Program and the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce have collaborated to present the 10 month, adult leadership program - Leadership Elk and Cameron (LEC).

An advisory committee of over thirty people work on planning and presenting each monthly program and LEC was developed with the assistance of a grant from the Stackpole Hall Foundation.
