The Community Education Center’s Leadership Elk County (LEC) program graduated 18 new local leaders on June 8, 2016. The celebration began with presentations of the community improvement projects completed by 5 groups. LEC participants teamed up with community agencies to help complete projects, including, Headwaters Charitable Trust, Local’Motion, Ridgway/Elk County Chamber of Commerce, Oak Manor, Dickinson Center, Community Nurses, Elk County Catholic High School, and the YMCA. The community projects raised more than $20,000 in cash and in-kind donations.
The graduation dinner was held at Gunner’s Restaurant where participants, their employers and their families heard from local leaders Bill Conrad of the Stackpole-Hall Foundation and LEC alumnus and St. Marys City Councilman Lou Radkowski. Student Jason Gabler provided comments on his experiences with LEC during the year.

The 10-month LEC program began in September 2015 and met monthly. Each monthly session focuses on a different topic about the County including economic development, arts and education, local and state government, history and preservation, health and human services and tourism and environment.

More than 130 individuals have graduated from LEC since 2008. The program is accepting applications for the 2016-2017 year. Individuals must live and/or work in Elk or Cameron Counties and be a high school graduate. Please visit www.leadershipelkcounty.com or call the CEC at 781-3437 for applications or more information.
